"Why ordination?" we are sometimes asked. Most Protestant denominations, church associations, and many independent churches ordain their pastors to set them apart for ministry leadership. The Christian and Missionary Alliance follws the long-standing practicce of publicly dedicating men to a lifetime of pastoral ministry in the church. Quoting from C&MA policy, it is "the completion of preparation" through study, mentoring, and examination by ordained peers. Another way to put it is that ordination is the Church's highest means of recognizing that a man possesses the call, character, grasp of Scripture and doctrine, gifting, and competency to shepherd God's flock.
